Dihydro testosterone – DHT

DHT is a highly active form of testosterone, a naturally occurring hormone which assists with sexual development in males. It is produced in the prostate adrenal gland and in the scalp. Testosterone is converted to DHT by the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. DHT is thought to be the main androgen responsible for male pattern baldness. During hair loss DHT begins to treat your follicles as foreign objects in your body and a rejection of the follicle occurs.

Follicles at the front, top and upper back of the head in most men are susceptible to DHT at some point in a mans life. Hairs which cover the bottom back and side of the head are not susceptible and this is the reason men do not lose hair in these areas.
Over time the action of DHT causes follicles to decay, some follicles will die but most will shrink in size producing weaker and thinner hairs.

The sebaceous gland attached to the follicle remains the same size. This gland secretes sebum (natural oil). The amount of sebum secreted is constant so as your hair thins your hair becomes flatter and oilier. The excessive sebum can cause clogging thus malnutrition of the hair root.

DHT attaches itself to receptors on the hair follicle inhibiting new hair growth. Some follicles will gradually die but most will simply shrink producing weaker thinner hair.

DHT causes the rejection of hair follicles. Due to this rejection the follicle is released from the hair shaft before it has completed the Anagen cycle (the growth phase of hair 2 – 7 yrs) The follicle then becomes inactive. A new hair is unable to grow and push through as it is being deprived of nutrients. As men age more DHT builds up in the system and the process is multiplied. This is how men go bald. Follicles do not die but become inactive.

We cannot predict how the product will work for each individual and can only go on results gathered from our existing clients. It does depend on medical considerations and how long your have been losing hair for.
